This is one of the rarest names that we have been called upon to research, it does not appear in the London Register of 1880 nor in the modern telephone book. Such rarity indicates that the name is a variant spelling and this is born out by the few 'link' spelling recordings that we have been able to identify. We believe that the origination is probably Huguenot and that it is a developed anglicized form of the original personal name 'Albertus' first recorded in 997 A.D.. However it must be stressed that as with all variant spellings it is never possible to be absolutely definite. The name development may include Susanna Albuson recorded at St. Mary the Virgin, Dover on December 24th 1704. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Eveline Albush, which was dated February 22nd 1835, married Richard Davies at Queensborough, Kent, during the reign of King William IV, The Sailor King, 1830 - 1837. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
